And while this marks new beginnings and the transition into adulthood, it also means something else: it’s time for students to start paying off their student loan debt. As if repaying student loans wasn’t already terrifying enough as it was, according to the Wall Street Journal the graduating class of 2011 should [...]

 <itunes:summary>Gas Price Update: $4.049
This week on Millionaire or Bust we start off by discussing a few news stories. First we mention how the mortgage giants Freddie Mac & Fannie Mae are in trouble. There is currently a debate on whether they might be nationalized. We also mention how the dollar has gained value lately based on speculation on the EU’s economy, failing commodity prices and a rise in US industrial output in July. This news was gleaned from a news.yahoo.com article.

We touch on a news.yahoo.com story about a possible recession coming to Britain within the next 6-9 months coupled with the UK’s falling housing prices. We also quickly mention a drop in Chinese share prices amid renewed worries about an economic slowdown there. Then we talk about why you should care about these issues in foreign countries and how it might even be an opportunity for you.
Finally we cover an article by Jessica Silver-Greenberg, called “Getting Smarter on School Loans” for those out there that are either starting college soon or who have kids who are. We cover the ways that people pay for education, why some of them are poor choices or are becoming risky ones to rely on. We also discuss some federal options that can be better for your pocketbook. Some of the figures in the article aren’t accurate, so we find you the right ones from the goverment’s Stafford Loan site.

This week we talk about college savings and programs that can help you do that. Below is a link to the Fool website that discusses different programs that are available:

Money Saving Tips
Money Saving Tip of the Week
Bring your drinks to work. Bringing your own drinks is cheaper than buying them at Starbucks or the vending machine. One Starbucks coffee and two sodas a day can cost you an extra $875/yr per person…That’s a lot extra you can invest.
Talli’s Tightwad Tip of the Week
Bring your lunch to work. You can save between $15-40/wk per person
That’s $750-2000/yr per person. Combined with bringing your drinks, you can save at least $1500 and maybe almost $3000 for one person. With two people…you do the math. It’s a huge savings and well worth it.
Financial Psychology
Thinking, “That won’t save me much. What’s a dollar here or there?” Add up all those items and they might translate into a couple hundred a month, or even several hundred a month. At the end of the year, those small savings which weren’t that painful anyway, might leave you with several thousand dollars of savings.
Tool of the Week
www.insweb.com
This site is dedicated to helping you compare insurance companies, so that you can get the best rate. Give it a try. It’s free and it could save you some money.</itunes:summary>
